With 122 city parks and over 13,000 acres of parkland and natural areas, Louisville is a great place for outdoor adventures. The Louisville Waterfront Park overlooks the Ohio River in Downtown and is home to fun concerts and festivals. The Jefferson Memorial Forest features over 30 miles of hiking trails. Otter Creek Outdoor Recreation Area is a favorite spot for mountain biking. And the in-progress Louisville Loop will offer 110 miles of continuous paved hiking and biking trails throughout the metro area.

Downtown Louisville

Downtown Louisville is where all the fun truly happens. Explore Museum Row, where you can find famed attractions like the Louisville Slugger Museum, the Muhammad Ali Center, and the Kentucky Science Center. Another spot worth visiting is Fourth Street, a major entertainment center filled with restaurants, shopping, theatres, and the Fourth Street Live! entertainment district. And of course, the heart of Louisville is the KFC Yum Center, home to the University of Louisville Cardinals.



Louisville remains a major shipping and cargo hub, though its economy has diversified over the years. It’s home to the Worldport global air-freight hub for UPS, as well as the Port of Louisville and Jefferson Riverport International. Healthcare and medical sciences are also growing industries, as Louisville is home to Humana, a Downtown medical research center and rehab center, Norton Healthcare, and KentuckyOne Health. Ford and GE Appliances bring in manufacturing jobs, while companies like Brown-Forman bolster the American whiskey industry.



Public school students in Louisville are served by Jefferson County Schools and attend some of the top-ranked schools in the state, like DuPont Manual High School, ranked #1 Best Public High School in Kentucky, Louisville High (#6), and Atherton High School (#11).

Louisville is also home to several major colleges and universities, including the University of Louisville, which is perhaps best known for its competitive DI men’s football and basketball teams. It’s also home to Bellarmine University, Spalding University, and ATA College, among others.
